Examples from Florida exhibit paste ranging in color from cream to orange-ish brown. Examples reported from the southwestern United States have a reddish-brown paste. Black Lead-glazed Coarse Earthenware is distinguished from English Buckley ware by its single-color paste.

Description

Cream to reddish brown-colored, compact, sandy paste. Interior and exterior of vessels are covered with an opaque, reflective black glaze, occasionally with a lustrous appearance.
