Klagetoh Black-on-white is characterized by thick vessel walls and thick crackled slips (Hays-Gilpin and van Hartesveldt 1998; Reed 1944; Wilson 1999). Vessel forms include bowls and narrow jars or ollas. Designs are executed in a thick mineral paint that is black to brown to reddish brown in color. Designs are dominated by fine diagonal and longitudinal hachure. Framing lines tend to be wider than hachure. Hatched elements are often contrasted with solid elements which include stepped triangles, parallel lines, triangles and ticked lines. There less similarity and balance between these elements than in Tularosa Black-one-white. Design elements are similar to those described in Tularosa Black-on-white but tend to be larger (Wilson, Southwest Ceramic Typology Project, 2012).
